At Renaissance we believe in the whole development of the child and that exposure to the arts and to various forms of expression is key.
Mondays:
DEVELOPING LANGUAGE THROUGH STORYTELLING CLUB
With Ms. Kim: Processing ideas, organizing thoughts, planning, and word choice are all skills needed to successfully communicate what we want others to know. In this activity time children will engage in rich, seasonal literature to strengthen these language concepts. We’ll explore characters, setting and the major events, focussing on the beginning, middle and end in stories. We’ll identify specific vocabulary in literature and how words add to the joy of a story. Each afternoon children will make their own choices related to the focus concept and create a page to be added to their own monthly picture book and practice telling all about it. Those who are ready and want to write words will be encouraged to do so. Through this process children will be developing:
- listening skills through hearing, sharing, and retelling stories
- vocabulary through discussion and word choice
- oral communication through sharing their creations
